Under international law (as against the US hypocritically imposed Liberal International Order [LIO]), the United States is easily the worst serial offender and displays an utter disregard for the international legal system, the United Nations and even its own LIO as it tells others to do as it says not as it does. If it were a single US citizen it would probably be housed in a US Super Max prison, counted as the most psychopathically dangerous repeat offender in the nation. The state organs of the US are simply part of a Mafia-style organization run for the benefit of the US oligarchy; an oligarchy which displays a seething arrogance and aggression toward anyone, any nation, or any international institution that attempts to limit its globe-spanning extractive profiteering and the protection racket known as the US$.
There is a whole academic industry that spends its days pushing out article after article, report after report, stating the sanctity of the LIO and how if everyone will just follow it and accept the “benevolent” rule of the US there will suddenly be world peace. The inconvenient fact that the US breaks that LIO on pretty much a daily basis is conveniently not seen by this academic and media reproduction of the Three Wise Monkeys; see no US evil, hear no US evil, speak no truth about US evil. As the populations of so many nations that have been invaded and brutalized by the US in the name of the LIO can attest to, US “benevolence” knows no bounds! It’s just like the rule of the Capo di tutti capi (Godfather); you kiss the ring, you make the regular payments, do “favours” when asked, deal with anyone in your group that doesn’t profess love for the Capo di tuttti capi, and no one that you care about gets hurt!
If you really prove yourself you could even become a “made man”, or even woman in these enlightened days, ruling your group (country) for the benefit of you, your friends, and your US Godfather. Some of the made people (let’s remember that gender can be fluid) will be identifiable autocrats, but others can luxuriate in merely performative, “democratic” elections and “feminist” foreign policies that push “democracy promotion”. With genius level sophistry and a butchering of the language that would make Big Brother envious, you can even support a fascist regime that routinely and very consciously bombs and shells civilians in the name of “freedom”, “democracy”, “human rights”, and of course the sanctified LIO. You can even criticize another nation for working to bring higher living standards to a poor Muslim community while fully supporting an apartheid regime that routinely murders Muslims and steals their land in an ethnic cleansing that has continued for many decades. All supported by the academic and media Three Wise Monkeys.
Now if you don’t get the message, the US State Mafia will do whatever is necessary to bring you into line; i.e. crush you until you get used to being on your knees. Even with some of the made people, the US elites can be just so damn greedy they can’t control themselves and force even greater levels of “contributions”. Below, I detail some of these extortionary tactics; utilized especially for Mob “friends” and those nations that are maybe a little too dangerous to just go invade or “throw against a wall” (just to show the world the US means business) as one US oligarchic Mafia operative put it.
Daylight Bank Robbery
The US state can simply decide that your nation is a “bad” one and use this as a pretext to steal any money that your nation holds in US banks. Given that a large chunk of world trade is still facilitated using the US$, all countries will have some level of US dollar holdings that can be so stolen (“frozen” in the US sophistry). US made-persons may join in, such as the EU with respect to Russian Euro deposits, and the UK with respect to Venezuelan gold holdings. Most recently, the US stole the foreign exchange reserves of Afghanistan in what seems to be an attempt to starve it into submission and perhaps punish it for the Taliban’s closure of the poppy fields that Western intelligence agencies, banks and elites make so much money from. Strange how the Taliban can stop poppy production so fast, while it flourished under the Western occupation. Maybe Colombia and the US DEA should take lessons from the Taliban?
The extra-territoriality of US financial sanctions for anyone engaging in US$-based financial activities also greatly extends the arms of the US state. Most recently, the US removed the threat of actions against European, Middle Eastern and Asian banks holding the “frozen” US$6 billion of Iranian funds in South Korea to allow that money to be transferred to the UAE where it can be used to purchase “humanitarian” goods; in return for the freedom of 6 US operatives held in Iran. To make its illegal sanctions extra-territorial all the US has to do is threaten to cut international banks off from the US$ system, which would severely impact those banks, or fine foreign firms operating in the US or just kidnapping (e.g. making shit up and jailing them for it) their executives until they say “uncle”; basically blackmail.
US Law Enforcement as the Mob: FBI Enforcers, Biased Judges and Kidnappings
Under President Trump the US state simply decided that the elected president of Venezuela was no such thing and appointed its own potentate (Juan Guaido) to rule the country from the US. It blocked US$7 billion of Venezuelan assets and placed the contents of Venezuelan state bank accounts in the US under Guaido’s control. At the same time, the US pressured Cape Verde into illegally kidnapping the Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab who was then flown to the US and illegally imprisoned there. These actions just added to the ongoing illegal economic and covert operations war that the US has waged against Venezuela ever since Hugo Chavez was elected president two decades ago.
The US also blackmails foreign corporations into paying large fines for misconduct, while allowing US firms that have done exactly the same or worse to go scot-free. Such actions can also be used to strong-arm foreign corporations into selling valuable assets to US corporations, as was the case with French company Alstom in 2013. The US state went after the company for bribes paid by the French company in Indonesia, using the extra-territorial tentacles of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. After jailing one senior executive without warning, and threatening crippling fines, the US state forced Alstom’s surrender. Most of the company, which included strategic French assets, was sold to the US General Electric, and the company pleaded guilty and paid a lesser fine (now that GE would be taking it over) while the French state agreed to cooperate more with the US. The French executive wrote a harrowing account of his experiences, and the geo-economic undertones.
This was followed by the infamous case of Meng Wanzhou, Head of Finance for Huawei and the founder’s daughter, where the US deemed that it had jurisdiction over events that happened between a Chinese company (Huawei) and a Hong Kong bank (Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank) because the US$ was involved. The US state may have also very well have pressured the bank with the threat of massive fines and personal jail sentences to fabricate an incredibly weak case. The US then used its northern vassal to kidnap Ms. Meng (the equivalent of kidnapping Bill Gates’ daughter serving as head of finance for Microsoft) under the illegal US sanctions against Iran, for a felony that did not exist in Canadian law. After an extended kidnap ordeal, Ms. Meng was finally released without agreeing that she was guilty of anything. This was seen as a victory by many countries, as China had called the bluff of the US Godfather. The US has also tried to throttle Huawei through targeted technology sanctions, but these seem to have simply driven the company to come back even stronger; which must greatly anger the Godfather. With Huawei now able to compete with Apple using domestic-sourced technology, the Chinese state has shown that it is ready to take a bite out of Apple; whose phones are assumed to carry US state spyware. About 20% of Apple’s sales originate in China, and the new Huawei phone is now free to compete with it in other markets.
This year a Texas jury ruled in favour of an also-ran US company against the world-leader in drone technology DJI, with respect to patent infringement in an utterly ridiculous misuse of the law. That DJI can show that it was using the “infringed” technologies well before the US company is beyond doubt, but that is irrelevant to a US legal system that simply wants to harm a major technology competitor that is dominating the global drone market. Very much a parallel to the actions taken to destroy Huawei when it threatened Apple’s profits in the global handset market and to dominate the mobile router business. Not content with a nearly US$300 million fine, the judge ordered that DJI should provide its source code to the US company. This request was outrageous, as the judge was ordering the world leader in drone technology to hand over its business secrets to an also-ran. Just one more case of US law enforcement and its courts being used to intimidate, bully, and extort concessions from successful foreign companies; so much for the “free market”. A few months later, China placed restrictions on the export of the more advanced versions of the DJI drones. We will see if DJI hands over the source code, this may well be appealed all the way to the US Supreme Court and if that fails DJI will probably remove itself from the US market. For US drone makers this will be a plus, but for those wanting to use drones (a much bigger group) it will be a significant loss.
Anyone who thinks that the US State and its judiciary does not act like a Mafia organization should watch the following video on the appalling case of Aafia Siddiqui, just one of so many:
The US Navy As Modern Day Pirates: Iranian Oil and Russo-German Pipelines
The US Navy has decided that it has the right to seize Iranian oil cargoes on the high seas, like some modern-day Privateer. Earlier this year the US Navy seized a tanker carrying Iranian oil in international waters, claiming the right to do so under US sanctions against Iran. As these sanctions are not supported by the UN, they are illegal and thus this is a blatant act of piracy. In the usual classic case of US doublespeak, the US then claimed that Iran was a threat to shipping in the Arabian Gulf area!
Then of course there is the wonderful case of the US (and possibly UK) destruction of the Nordstream II pipeline, in one of the greatest state terrorist acts of this century. As the true Godfather, the US has forced its German made-people to accept this “disciplinary” action that will hobble the German economy (as well as that of Europe more generally) and made them deeply dependent upon supplies of much more expensive natural gas from the Godfather. The German made-people were getting a little bit too independent, so needed to be taught a lesson and made more dependent. A bit like knee-capping a sub-boss for buying drugs from the competition while also setting fire to the sub-boss’ drug warehouse and supply tunnel.
The US Army As Low-life Thieves: Syrian Oil and Food
In Syria, the US blatantly occupies the sovereign territory of the UN-recognized nation state while also openly training terrorists to attack that state and the Syrian population in general; again, the doublespeak is utilized as it is ironically called an “anti-terrorist” operation. President Trump stated the quiet part aloud (which he has a tendency to do) when he stated that the troops were there to steal Syria’s oil. Those troops have also been tasked with stealing the food supplies of the population, literally taking the food out of babe’s mouths. Together with the utterly brutal, and illegal, sanctions war waged against Syria by the US and Europe, this is designed to stop Syria rebuilding after the destruction of the Western, Turkish and GCC sponsored terrorist war of aggression against the Syrian people.
The above are just a handful of the myriad of lawless actions that the US is continuously engaged in while it hypocritically lectures the world on the importance of its self-defined LIO and claims to be weighed down by a modern-day version of the White Man’s Burden to bring civilization, democracy and freedom to the world. As Winston Smith would have so understood, that US version of “freedom” on offer is a neo-slavery. So, don’t be surprised the next time the US Mafia state does something illegal and even against its own stated LIO principals; its just in its nature. And that “LIO”, it’s whatever the US says it is at a given point in time; Mafia Godfather’s always have the right to change their mind, capeesh?
After the neoliberal ghouls pick up the pieces in Ukraine what then?
