The Lies Of The The Rwanda Genocide
An African Parallel of Israel
In the 1990s I believed a very simple tale about the Rwanda genocide, but the more I looked into it the more the lie collapsed. As with the official discourses on the first US war on Iraq or the official stories of the destruction of Yugoslavia, it relied on a constant retelling and a studied memory holing of inconvenient facts and an utter ignoring of the reality of Rwanda under Kagame.
First the colonial history. The German and then Belgian colonists of Rwanda (and Burundi), as with the other colonial nations, tended to use ethnic minorities as their vassal administrators and enforcers; in this case the minority Tutsi. The classic colonial “divide and conquer” strategy that created inter-ethnic hatred. From an article in the Guardian:
In a system continued under Belgian colonialism, they [the Tutsis] treated the Hutu peasants like serfs, forcing them to work on their land and sometimes beating them like donkeys. Hutu anger simmered until shortly before independence in 1962, then exploded in brutal pogroms against the Tutsi, hundreds of thousands of whom fled to neighbouring countries.
The Tutsis were the hated instruments of colonial power who actively subjugated the majority Hutus over a half a century of colonialism (as well as hundreds of years previously in the precolonial Tutsi-dominated period); seen as traitors and historical subjugators. So with independence, the Hutu majority took out their anger on the Tutsi, many of whom escaped to Uganda. When Museveni took power in Uganda in 1986, a quarter of his rebel force were Tutsi and they were rewarded with senior positions in the administration; including in the military. Paul Kagame was the acting head of Ugandan military intelligence before the invasion of Rwanda (see below) and was known for torturing detainees and for his utter brutality in putting down Ugandan rebellions. From this position of strength, the Tutsi started to launch raids into Rwanda that flared up ethnic hatred and attacks against the Tutsis still living in Rwanda.
Since the independence of Rwanda and Burundi in 1962, Rwanda was ruled by dictator puppets of Belgium, Grégoire Kayibanda (1962 - 1973), and France and Belgium, Juvénal Habyarimana (1973 - 1994), both of whom had also served with the colonial forces. Both were Hutu and both had adopted pro-Hutu policies to undo the over-representation of Tutsi in government institutions and other parts of society. But they also acted as a ruling class that thoroughly exploited the population themselves. In 1990 the RPF (Rwandan Patriotic Front), a body of predominantly Tutsis that served in the Ugandan Army, invaded Rwanda from Uganda. This was to all intents and purposes a Ugandan sponsored Tutsi invasion of Rwanda, that drove ethnic hatred to new heights. The Tutsis were also covertly supported by the US authorities, ignoring the tinder box of ethnic hatred that was being created. At the start of the invasion, Kagame was being trained at Fort Leavenworth by the US military in field tactics and psychological operations.
Habayarimana reneged on parts of the Arusha Accords that had ended the conflict in 1993, which were pressed upon him by Britain and US, as they would have given the RPF much greater power than they would have ever won in free and fair elections. With a position that would have easily facilitated a coup d’etat and installation of a Tutsi-dominated government. A fate that Burundi had already met in 1993 as the Tutsi-dominated army had assassinated the president who had been democratically elected with 65% of the vote only months earlier, and taken power. A previous Tutsi-dominated Burundi regime had slaughtered 200,000 Hutus in 1972. The 1993 Burundi coup was reversed, with 10,000s dead, stoking ethnic hatred even more. One piece of the Arusha Accords that was implemented was the location of an RPF contingent in the capital city itself, facilitating any planned coup. Given the small share of Tutsis in the Rwandan population, the RPF would have only won a small percentage of the vote in the free and fair elections that were called for in the Arusha Accords.
So Habayarimana was killed when his plane was shot down in early 1994, a shoot down which has been proven to have been done on the orders of Kagame. This fact was utterly lied about by all of the Western media, who immediately blamed Hutu extremists. The act that triggered the “genocide” was carried out by Tutsis on the orders of Kagame.
Instead of the extremely well armed RPF (better armed than the Rwandan army) travelling south to save the Tutsis where the greatest killings took place, it moved to take the capital; ignoring the mass killings. By the time the capital was taken, the killings in the south were already tapering off. As the RPF took power it slaughtered hundreds of thousands of Hutu, with millions of Hutu fleeing to the neighbouring Congo.
In their excellent 2014 book “Enduring Lies: The Rwandan Genocide in the Propaganda System, 20 Years Later”, Herman and Peterson expertly take down the reams of lies that the Western propaganda machine and the Kagame regime have told about the massacres. They detail research that puts the lie to the UN claims of 800,000 deaths that were predominantly Tutsi. The pre-“genocide” Tutsi population of Rwanda was about 500,000 with 300,000 to 400,000 surviving; so between 100,000 and 200,000 Tutsi deaths. If there were half a million total deaths, then at least 300,000 Hutus died; the majority of deaths were Hutu. Any higher overall death figure simply increases the share of Hutu deaths as the Tutsi population was limited and a large share of it survived. The researchers have of course been branded as “genocide deniers” and are persona non grata in Rwanda.
Let’s remember that in the proposed free and fair elections, the RPF would have gained very little of the vote given the small share of Tutsis in the general population and the now utter hatred of the RPF by the Hutu majority. Such a loss had already been presaged very recently in Burundi, with the Tutsis attempting to overthrow the democratic will of the people by force. So it was in the interests of the RPF to trigger a new conflict, that it knew it could win militarily. And the more accurate death numbers point to the RPF sweeping the country murdering swathes of the Hutu population. This was not a “genocide”, it was a military take over by the Tutsi to forestall a loss in free and fair elections, which included the mass terrorization of the Hutu population. With the RPF making little real effort to stem the murders of Tutsi in reaction to the RPF murder of the president and the RPF aggression. The West also did not “fail to intervene”, it instead actively supported the RPF. The myth that the Hutu authorities had been planning Tutsi massacres months in advance is also shown to be the utter lie that it is by Herman and Peterson.
Also, the RPF did not stop the killings and actually rejected requested by the Rwanda government forces for a ceasefire so that actions could be taken to stop the killings. After the RPF had taken power it then invaded the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to attack the masses of Hutu refugees there, resulting in even the UN reporting more than 3.5 million excess deaths due to the RPF repeated invasions; a number dwarfing the Rwanda “genocide” death toll. With other reports counting over 5 million excess deaths, a true genocide of the Hutu refugee population that has never been properly reported on in the Wester media. These repeated invasions and support for Tutsi rebels in the DRC have also facilitated a mass theft of DRC mineral wealth that has flowed into the supply chains of Western corporations; especially those in the electronics sector.
While the Western nations happily celebrated Kagame as the man who stopped a “genocide” and provided his armies with military supplies. Kagame also had his forces invade Zaire (supported by Uganda) and overthrow the president, installing Kabila as the new head of that country. Kagame is a mass murderer whose killings far exceed those of Idi Amin, but the wonders of Western propaganda turn him into a “genocide”-stopping hero. Because he has been doing the work of the West, including the mass theft of the natural resources of the DRC. The Rwandan armed forces have also become a proxy disciplining force of the West, helping to put down popular uprisings in both Mozambique and the Central African Republic. Within Rwanda, Kagame is a dictator who runs fake elections where his main opponents always end up in jail.
In many ways, Rwanda can be treated as an African parallel of Israel. A country lead by a Tutsi regime put in place with significant help from the West and Western-puppet governments, allowed to carry out genocidal policies while stealing the resources and lands of its neighbours and acting as a regional security force for the West. With “genocide denial” as its equivalent of “antisemitism”. The utter reversal of the truth of the Rwandan “genocide” also mirrors the utter reversal of the truth of the October 7th 2023 events and the party that was actually responsible for the majority of the killings.

Thanks Roger, for exposing the colonial legacy and ongoing Western complicity in interfering in African internal affairs.
disturbing parallel here... good article...thanks roger...
