The past week or so has been full of news that points to “peak Ukraine” in the West, with the standing ovation in the Canadian parliament for a member of the Waffen SS acting as a visual marker. The utter failure of the Ukrainian offensive as well as the much-touted Western tanks, together with the extreme levels of corruption siphoning off Western aid, has started to destroy the Western propaganda and forced even the Western media to provide some more accurate reporting. At the same time, the huge sums of money provided to Ukraine while Western populations are suffering from cuts to social spending and sanctions exacerbated inflation, has started to significantly erode popular support.
In the US, the side deal that the Republican Speaker of the House McCarthy had made with the Democrats with respect to a vote on yet more Ukrainian largesse led to his removal. Aid may still flow to Ukraine, but perhaps in smaller amounts and the political divide on this issue will both widen and become much more public. The Canadian House Speaker Rota also resigned, over his “accidental” invocation of the tribute to a Nazi. Rota was raised in the same constituency as Hunka, the latter coming from a prominent Ukrainian family, so Rota attempting to have people believe that he did not know of Hunka’s past is somewhat stretching credulity. The same goes for the Deputy Prime Minister, who is extremely prominent in the Ukrainian community and whose father was a wanted Nazi collaborator. It is obvious that the applause for Hunka was an attempt to legitimize members of the Ukrainian Waffen SS as “fighters against Russia”; which massively backfired. The history of the Canadian political class in cozying up to these Nazis is extensive, a history which many more people are now becoming aware of and looking into. A reopening of a hidden history that the Canadian establishment and their subservient media are attempting to forestall, as detailed by John Helmer. The 60 minutes 1997 expose below, Canada’s Dark Secret, provides insight into some of that hidden history.
In Europe the ability of the European elites to keep their populations properly controlled, in the face of policies that increasing segments of the population are against, is also starting to fail. In Germany voters are flocking to the right-wing AfD which is against aid to Ukraine, and the left-wing Die Linke is splitting between the bourgeois identitarian progressives who support Ukraine and the traditional left who do not. The latter are most probably going to be led by Sahra Wagenknecht, who forcefully and cogently stated in the Bundestag:
how dumb is the idea that we can punish Putin by pushing millions of German families into poverty and destroy our economy while Gazprom makes record profits? … The thesis that the federal republic of Germany is leading an economic war against Russia reverses cause and effect (quote from the hyperlinked Guardian article above)
Comments met with vocal support from the AfD. The probable result will be an “old-fashioned” left wing party aligned with working people that will garner significant support among German voters suffering from decades of neoliberal class warfare and sanctions-exacerbated inflation, while watching an open German check book being provided to Ukraine. The open disdain for the German voters shown by Foreign Minister (Green Party leader and WEF graduate) Barebock in insisting that aid for Ukraine will continue even if unsupported by the German people has shown the true anti-democratic nature of the current ruling German coalition.
After the recent elections in Slovakia it looks like the traditional left-wing Fico may become the country’s next leader, a man who has repeatedly stated his opposition to aid to Ukraine. Orban in Hungary will now have an ally next door. Aid to Ukraine has also become a major issue in the Polish October election, with the ruling party having to take a much less supportive position on aid to Ukraine given the rise of the anti-Ukraine aid Confederation party. The history of Poland and Ukraine is extremely problematic, and the Ukrainian leadership have miscalculated in showing a lack of gratitude for Polish aid, not immediately accepting that a missile that hit Poland was Ukrainian and not Russian, and flooding Poland (and other nations) with cheap grain that threatens Polish (and other) farmers.
I have previously written about the extremely one-sided war of attrition that Ukraine has become trapped in by both the Russians and its desperate need to show progress to maintain Western aid levels. The scale of Ukrainian military losses (dead, irretrievably wounded, missing probably dead and taken prisoner: 570,000) is equivalent to the whole 18-30 prime age male population of the Ukrainian-controlled territories; with the overall population probably not exceeding 20 million. The equivalent Russian losses are in the region of 100,000 when counting those of the Russian army, LPR/DPR and Wagner group, with Russia having a population of 150 million. The attrition of Ukrainian military equipment is also incredibly high as Russia enjoys overwhelming dominance in artillery, missiles, aircraft, drones, electronic warfare, and even mine laying equipment. In covering the increasingly desperate military and economic situation for the Ukrainians, Simplicius notes some new estimates for Ukrainian irrevocable losses are in the region of 700-800,000. If true, Ukraine’s ability to make it through to the Spring may be in serious question.
Western stockpiles are running low, and the oligopolistic corrupt rentier-profit focused Western Military-Industrial-Complex (MIC) has been unable to ramp up production. In contrast the Russian state-controlled MIC has rapidly ramped up production, at per unit costs many times less than their Western equivalents. The production of kits that attach to the massive inventories of old “dumb” bombs, for example the 1.5 ton FAB-1500, to turn them into GPS-targeted glide bombs being a great example of Russian ingenuity and cost effectiveness. This provides a mass-producible glide bomb rather than the specialist US JDAM and Russian UPAB which are many times more expensive.
At the start of the war Ukraine had the advantage in drone production, but the Russian MIC has rapidly ramped up drone production to the point where Russia has an overwhelming advantage. For example, the US$35,000 Lancet drone destroying US$ multi-million “invincible” Leopard tanks.
In the following video it is noted that the Russian army is easily destroying any Western military equipment sent to Ukraine, including the “invincible” Western tanks; with overwhelming advantages in artillery, rockets, aircraft (including helicopters), missiles, and thermobaric munitions. Please ignore the Western propaganda statements of the “Russian” missile attack upon Kharkov in the video below, as even the New York Times has now accepted that the rockets were Ukrainian.
The already deeply underdeveloped and rentier dominated Ukrainian economy has collapsed by at least one third since the invasion, while corruption levels have ramped up even more, and the Ukrainian state is completely dependent on continuing flows of Western financial aid to keep it afloat. The government budget deficit in 2024 is forecast to be US$42 billion, 20% of GDP, all financed by Western financial aid. There have been proposals to substitute loans for the aid, but that would simply propel Ukraine into unsustainable debt serfdom. Russia is running a government budget deficit of less than 2% of GDP. The Russian state may also be gaining solid support from the population in its new regions as it provides extensive financial support and pensions that are worth twice those provided by the Ukrainian state, reflecting the much higher living standards in Russia. News of such Russian largesse reaching the ears of people in the Ukrainian controlled areas, struggling under meagre payments and endemic corruption and inflation, can only serve to reduce the legitimacy of the Ukrainian state.
Given the circumstances, even a relatively small reduction in Western financial and military aid may lead to a rapid collapse of both the Ukrainian economy and its military. The latter collapse may be only a matter of months away anyway given the scale of Ukrainian casualties in relation to the remaining pool of even marginally able men. Although the exact breaking point cannot be predicted, and groups can keep hanging on long past the time when they should have surrendered - which will only exacerbate the demographic collapse of the Ukrainian-controlled areas. Simplicius notes the continued formation of new Ukrainian brigades, with Zelensky seemingly hell-bent on keeping up the offensive operations no matter what the human cost; fighting the Russians until the last able-bodied man and possibly quite a few of the women and disabled. A self-imposed ethnic cleansing, with “meat” assaults against an opponent with overwhelming military superiority.
Much depends upon Russian timelines; are they happy to slowly squeeze Ukraine’s throat without producing a specific crisis that could be used to galvanize the West or will they push to end the war sooner? In the former case, 2024 could represent a long agonizing death for what is currently known as Ukraine, as Russia continues to gain strength and the West weakens, with the final collapse and surrender perhaps delayed into 2025. In the former case, significant Russian successes could destroy the morale of the Ukrainian military and population in general after the incredibly expensive failure of the Summer offensive; a much better outcome for the Ukrainians.
These realities have led to an increasingly despondent and desperate mindset within the Ukrainian community at home and abroad, with some holding onto delusional claims of Russian losses and Ukrainian strength, producing increasing pleas to not stop the flow of Western aid. The US and the West have a habit of pumping up populations to throw at their enemies and then pulling back when defeat looms or a limited conflict threatens to escalate into a wider war that could involve Western militaries directly; the Kurds being a good example. This is the future that Ukraine faces. I recently attended a discussion led by two professors, one Polish and one Ukrainian, both staunchly pro-Ukrainian. One of them displayed the full delusional mindset while the other displayed a much greater understanding of reality while still being somewhat delusional about Russian “weakness”.
It is highly probable that the ovation to Hunka marked “peak Ukraine” in the West, and as the months pass Ukrainian military failure and Russian military success will eat away at any remaining support for Ukraine in the Western populations. The Western elites miscalculated that Russia was weak and that the non-Western 7/8ths of the world would join in with their sanctions; producing a quick victory crowned with the fall of Putin to be replaced with a more amenable leader. Instead, they have been dealt a long proxy war which they are losing and sanctions which have backfired onto their own nations while Russia becomes stronger by the day. Not only may the Ukraine war be seen in later years as a “Ukrainian male suicide by Russia” event but also as the catalyst that destroyed Western unity. The Duran covers the panic among the Russophobic UK establishment as the failure of the Ukraine proxy war, as well as Western unity, becomes more and more apparent.
Here is Condoleeza Rice displaying what passes for intelligent insight in the US establishment, showing why that establishment will never learn; maintaining a delusional view of the US during its long descent. Just like the British establishment, which still cannot give up dreams of “Global Britain” as it declines post-Brexit into an unimportant island off the coast of the declining European archipelago.
So, next the “Taiwan Provocation” to remove the Ukrainian disaster from public discussion, sometime after the 2024 election? US foreign policy is increasingly paralleling the behaviour of a child with ADHD, moving on from one failure to another while never being able to focus long enough to course correct.
I cannot imagine what the leadership in Russia makes of this.
Except the necessity to keep pushing hard to make more weapons.
Figuring how to get rid of the psychotic "leadership" class in the West should be first priority for any citizen capable of real thought. Not an easy task, for it pits one not only against that class, but against the brainwashed masses that "support" them. One wouldn't want to hurt someone has nothing to do with this - those brainwashed masses, it's not their fault, right? How does one get rid of Lindsey Graham or Susan Collins without embroiling the half wits in South Carolina or Maine? And it's not like one can talk to those half wits.
Presumably the Russians have all the targetting information they need, but they are just going to sit back and let us destroy ourselves - one way or the other. We can do a better job of self-destruction than any number of advanced drones.
